Dr. Adam Briggs (University of Oxford) tinyurl/pkb4zyl Abstract: Sugar sweetened drinks are associated with weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dental caries, and increasingly calls are being made to use taxes to limit their consumption. Our research has modelled the potential impact on obesity of taxing soft drinks both in the UK and Ireland, identifying the possible effects on different age and income groups. This talk will discuss our work and methodology, and place the results within the countries wider political context.
