Featuring: Shep Koss, Rockhound and Author Free Admission - Free Parking May 12, 2014 Meeting Hours: 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Multi Purpose Room 4117 Overland Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230 (@Culver Blvd., Near the 405 and 10 Freeways) culvercityrocks.org/meeting.htm Shep Koss, rockhounding friend of many of our clubs members and co-author of Rockhounding California, 2nd: A Guide to the State’s Best Rockhounding Sites, will tell us a short history of Sharktooth Hill and the surrounding area. Sharktooth Hills, 20 minutes Northeast of Bakersfield, is the most extensive marine bone bed in the world. Shep will explain how and why the fossil deposits are there. Sharktooth Hill is known for teeth from the Megalodon, the biggest prehistoric shark, larger than the modern great white sharks. Shep will cover the current status of Sharktooth Hill and will bring a wide variety of samples. He will briefly talk about other areas of the country where similar fossils are found and the differences. General Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room in the Veterans Bldg., 4117 Overland Ave. The Multi-Purpose Room is located in back of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium Building. When you enter the parking lot (from Culver Blvd - closest to Overland Blvd) walk to the right when facing the building. Around the corner, you will a sign leading to the Multi-Purpose room.
