Next Saturday, right here at our house: Amie Penwell, alternative rock songwriter, vocalist, and pianist. Our next concert will be an afternoon with Amie Penwell, alternative rock songwriter, vocalist, and pianist. Saturday, May 17. About her latest CD, Under City Lights, Amie Penwell says, “There is outrageous healing power in song. No matter what I may be working on, my aim is always to get to the healing.” Amie is known for the soulful, emotive quality of her music. She cites Neko Case, Chris Whitley, Jeff Buckley, and Radiohead as influences. Her songs “Mercy” and “Show Me to the River” were recently featured in an award-winning documentary, The Eyes of Thailand, narrated by Ashley Judd. In 2010, Amie was voted runner-up for Best Pop Artist of the Year on listener-supported Somojo Radio and featured on the cover of Somojo Magazine. “Amie is once again getting in touch with her soulful side while riding on some emotional rollercoasters… [She] is a one-of-a-kind artist with real substance.” —Jimmy Rae, Skope Magazine “Amie Penwell’s voice has that odd mixture of grit and polish that makes for great gospel singers. The first time you hear it, if you are sitting down, you will want to stand up. If you are standing, you may want to sit down. Her songs remind us of where we are perfect, and tell us the truth about where we are not.” —Mark Langton, Marin Independent Journal See and hear Amie Penwell online at amipenwell Saturday, May 17, at 2:00 PM (doors open at 1:30) 933 Rose Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611 Admission: $20 in advance, $25 at the door (All proceeds go to the musicians) Information about payment, transportation, and the concert series is at concerts.roseavenue Questions: debra@roseavenue
