Next Stop--1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Today the Senate passed my bill allowing an exchange of land to go forward so that the largest copper mine in North America can get started in Superior, Arizona. Close to 4,000 jobs. Over $1 billion per year in economic activity. And 25% of the nations copper needs met, copper that is necessary for our defense and manufacturing industries. There was strong opposition to this mine. Todays victory is due to the strength of conviction in the truth overcoming misrepresentations. And to perseverance. And to some crafty work behind the scenes by a seasoned veteran named John McCain. The below article is ok, but it overlooks the fact that the federal government gained 5,000 acres of pristine wilderness conservation lands that far outweigh the barren moonscape and trash that is Oak Flat. It fails to mention rock climbers get permanent access to certain climbing areas. It fails to mention that Oak Flat is public land, not tribal land. One would think we traded reservation land with all the hand wringing. It fails to mention the Obama Administration conducted a thorough study and found no cultural value in Oak Flat. What there is at Oak Flat is a hella ton of copper.
