Next query: Also in the same area as below, quite close to our friends house, is a deer farm, which has been there for 30 years with no incident until recently, when vandals (who may or may not have been children) cut the very high deer-proof fence. 12 escaped, including several breeding pairs with young. The deer farmer cannot shoot them (for same reasons as in the post below) and they are beyond his ability to try to recapture them. They have already started invading nearby gardens (apparently deer love roses, amongst other delicacies like vegetables). When the inevitable happens and they breed up, and head up into the bush, it will be an unmanageable environmental problem. There is also the very significant risk of them leaping out in front of a car on the nearby roads or major highway - and hitting a deer at 80 kph, let alone 110 ks, can be fatal. Police have apparently said they cant do anything. Any more good suggestions? Ralph Belbin??
