Next song from 2002 is by the lad who finished third in the first season of Pop Idol.. Darius Danesh. His audition for Pop Idol is in my opinion a case study in bravery. Hed auditioned and advanced quite a long way into the process on the show Pop Stars [which created Hearsay in 2001] and frankly Darius came across as a bit of a tit. He was trying way too hard, seemed arrogant and when he was given one last chance to prove himself did quite the most embarrassing version of Hit Me Baby One More Time ever seen on television. He got unceremoniously booted off the show... and was a national laughing stock as the video was played over and over. BUT.. he did have talent, and when Pop Idol came up he had another go. Nigel Lithgoe asked him why hed come back and he said his little brother. Apparently hed told his little brother he wouldnt go through that again and the kid said.. so if you dont get the very first job you apply for.. then youre never going to do another interview ever ??? So back he came.. more humble, altogether nicer, and got all the way to the final. Despite not winning he wrote and produced an album in the wake of the shows success which went platinum and spawned half a dozen hit singles.. this one being my favourite..
