Next time you criticize somebodys job and the fact that they are just sitting in front of a desk all day long, have a long, hard think first about how hurtful and ignorant that sounds. Nobody has the right to compare jobs or minimize somebodys hours of hard work and there is never any excuse for this, whether said calmly or in anger. My hours of work just sitting in front of a desk translating are just as hard as the physical work I put in when I massage somebody. You may not see what Im doing at my desk, but constantly thinking simultaneously in two languages and having to provide publication-ready copy under extremely tight deadlines is no mean feat. I invite you to try it and you will see. From working at various jobs since I was 13, I know firsthand that jobs can be both intellectually and physically exhausting and nobody has the right to denigrate something that somebody else has worked long and hard at. Equally, it is stupid and pointless to compare jobs and act like your job is harder than somebody elses. After all, how the bloody h*ll can you know unless you have been in their shoes? Its all subjective and its a short-sighted thing to do in the first place.
