Next up? The Sullivan Cup kicks off on May 12. During the competition the four-man crews will test their Armor Soldier skills against events that will challenge their maintenance, driver, gunnery and marksmanship abilities as well as their fitness levels and basic Soldier skills. Most of the events are open to the public. Spectators are welcome. The competition is named for retired Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, the Army’s 32nd chief of staff. During a career that spanned more than 30 years, Sullivan served as the deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Ky. and commanded the 1st Infantry Division (mechanized). As the chief of staff for the Army, Sullivan is credited with leading the Army’s transition out of its Cold War posture. He retired from the Army in July 1995.
