Next week on Thursday 17th, the world will be commemorating the International Criminal Justice Day, a day that marks entry into force of the International Criminal Court (ICC) since 2002. The ICC being the first ever international justice mechanism sends quite strong messages to all perpetrators and potential perpetrators that no matter what they do, where they do it from and who they do it to they cannot escape the long arm of justice. They can run but cannot hide (ideally). This sounds right and noble to any peace loving person. But what actually does the International Criminal Justice Day mean for victims? Victims who find themselves in the mix politics and intellectual debates of the elites who more often that not prefer to define justice from where they are sited and not from the lenses of victims themselves.
