Next weekend at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum Living History & Battle Reenactment on 10/12 and 10/13 Two days of 1800′s California based living history, also featuring a reenactment of the 1846 Battle of Dominguez Hill—also known as the Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun Saturday living history encampment is 10am to 3:30pm Victorian tea and dance is 3:30pm to 6:30pm Saturday only Sunday living history encampment is 10am to 4pm Battles are at 11:30am and 2pm both days Admission is free, however donations are always accepted Food will be available for purchase Witness the battle of the Old Woman’s Gun for yourself. This was only one of two battles won by the Californios in the Mexican American War and the museum is the only place the battle is reenacted. Meet people from the 1800s such as the Dominguez sisters, Thaddeus and Leontine Lowe with the U.S. Balloon Corps, musicians, soldiers, seamstresses, crafts people, cooks, chaplain, doctor, mountain men and more in the living history camp. Also, Attend a period church service Sunday morning at 10am Learn about straw hats and bonnets, watch bonnet making demos, and learn about weaving and natural dyes Hospital and surgical demonstrations with Dr. Malarky Whirled Peas Band performance both days (1pm on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday) Adobe brick making, gold panning, sewing, lace making, cooking and tortilla making Children’s games and pastimes (participate as you learn) Californio and U.S. Navy encampment re-creations Cannon firing And more Then on Saturday afternoon there will be an afternoon tea and dance at the Carriage House on the upper grounds on Saturday. Enjoy Old California Rancho-style Hospitality of the Victorian era! Refresh yourself with tea and light refreshments, then join others learn easy Victorian style dancing with Ginger Alberti, dance caller, and the delightful band “whirled Peas”. Period costumes are admired, but not required. Although free, any donation is greatly appreciate and goes to supporting the museum’s programming (suggested $5). This is a great weekend for all ages.
