#NiSisiDialogues #ManderaCounty: cc @MohamedKiongozi The Council of Elders of Mandera County is a very powerful exclusive group of 21 individuals. So powerful are they that whatever they say goes with the community. In the march 4th election they sat and decided on who will occupy each elective position from Governor to women MP to MCAs. All their choices were elected. The tragedy of this is that now they expect all jobs and county contracts to be distributed according to their wishes, spreading them among the 19 ukoos of Mandera. If one ukoo has say 6 individual with a masters degree, once one individual from that ukoo gets a job, the rest can forget it. If an ukoo has no people with degree papers, diploma holders get the job whether they qualify or dont. The youth of Mandera (male) have no voice. The Wazee decide and its a done deal. The youth of Mandera need to find their voice, including Governor Captn Ali Ibrahim Roba whose hands are tied by this traditional structure. Already people are talking about removing him in 2017 based on his Ukoo, yet he hasnt even had a chance to implement his considerable vision for Mandera county. Mandera County women are in an even worse position, they have no say at all, though pleasantly surprising, the Governors Chief of Staff Tamima is a lady. Mandera County youth and women have to find their voice to help their youthful Governor and other elected officials including their Woman MP Fathya Mahboub achieve their vision for this County endowed with POSSIBILITIES. My 2 cents.
