Nia - Purpose - To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. On this fifth day of Kwanzaa...I look at this principle as being a by product or a natural out growth of the previous principles. If we are doing those things, becoming more unified, self-determined, taking ownership for our individual and collective problems, and to improve the economic status of our community then our PURPOSE will be evident to us all. This I believe made the Ancestors so great and admirable that in the majority of time they acted for the betterment of all and did not caught up in the race for wealth and political powerful. History tells us through the writings of Chancellor Williams in The Destruction Of Black Civilization that by the time invaders from the North came into Africa it had from a cultural perspective the same laws governing the continent without ever being a continental constitution. In other words, all Africans had come to the same conclusion of what is good for the governance of the people. That is powerful! Additionally, at such time our Ancestors were removed from a focus on warfare for gain and were more focused on knowledge and understanding that it these barbaric civilizations found it rather easy to conquer and subjugate a large portion of the continent. We just werent focused on the concept of war to enslave and take from other but rather on how to work together. Such a consciousness about life and PURPOSE in it is remarkable. This is what we must get back to, I feel which is the greatness that spawned early writing systems, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, physics, chemistry, medicine, etc. We birth mankind, modern concepts of society, and modern civilization!
