Nice article by Theodore Baskaran. Most of the articles and postings on this issue are saying the protesters are right wing fundamentalists without naming anybody. Is there a write up on the hartal that was organized in Trichengode against the book. Fear can be easily created by a few miscreants. Who are these organizations and the name. Who are the brokers of the peace that happened under police scrutiny in a government office. From what I understand reading through various posts on the issue, nobody seems to know the people who have signed the agreement with Perumal Murugan. How valid is this agreement? Perumal Murugan or the lawyer who went with Perumal Murugan under police custody, did not even see the protesters! The agreement was forced out of them in an isolated room by a government official. Again the name is missing! For me this is clearly a case of an administration/government who has forced Perumal Murugan to succumb rather than dealing with the protesters in a rational or decent way. It has happened time and again. The TN govt conveniently takes the side of the protesters to simplify law and order problems. But they do not realize it is in fact accentuating law and order problems. frontline.in/the-nation/rage-over-a-custom/article6756685.ece
