Nice article in todays paper regarding Portland public schools. The state of Oregon has minimum number of classroom hours that must be offered by school district to constitute a school year. Apparently teachers union for the teachers negotiated for their teachers insufficient hours to meet that minimum requirement. Does this fall under do it for the kids? I was also surprised to learn that only 30% of students in Portland Public schools even take a full course load.
