Nice documentary on the old Detroit News building...I have a strange memory of that building in the 70s. I made my first ever attempt to drive downtown to put an application for a job there when I turned 18....well, got to the front door and was mesmerized at how ornate it was...but couldnt figure out how to park or what to do so I decided to just go home - but then realized I was lost. So here I am driving around the streets of Detroit, lost, in a panic and get pulled over for going through a red light I never saw. I started crying and the EVIL cop had no compassion or kindness left in his soul. He wrote me the ticket and just left me there even though I begged him how do I get to I-94 so I can go home? - he never answered. Shaking, I did finally find my way out, down Jefferson, but not until Id gone down a 4 lane one way street the wrong way and went through some pretty rough neighborhoods in my 12 yr old 62 Oldsmobile...the irony is I ended up getting a job at Parke Davis on Jefferson a few months later....and had to face my fears of driving downtown all over again. But at least it wasnt downtown downtown....(that would be a few years later when I worked for Michcon at 1 Larned)....so see what that old building started....and I never did attempt to apply there again.
