Getting involved in Culture Night - Part 1 Written by Emma Bond at Art and Home Following last year’s hugely successful Holywood Culture Night, Art & Home was keen to be involved again this year. Our hub coincided events with the 75th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz. The emergence of Technicolor, the town’s strong Buy Local campaign (No place like Home) and the countless other parallels with local businesses. This theme certainly helped us to come up with some of the more visual and animated acts, such as the Rainbow and yellow brick road which people seemed to love! Of-course the Art & Home Cow Parade continued to spark local businesses and community groups’ imaginations, with new runners this year including Danske Bank, Ravara TRC and The Green Party. Last year, Artist Ed Reynolds approached us as a caricature artist and as time went on we lost touch and before we knew it Culture Night 2012 had passed. This year, we knew we wanted him on-board and approached him in enough time to put things in place. Initially to do something very different from what he did! Ed’s a fantastic artist and his own imagination really sparked what he accomplished on Culture Night. The hoarding at the new Indian restaurant beside Art & Home was simply great timing! To Ed it was a blank canvas. Painting the people of Holywood as they enjoyed Culture Night. There were no shortage of models as people lined the street to be his next muse. Facebook profile pictures changed over-night as people rushed to show their portraits. He has created a lasting memory and decorated an otherwise uninspiring space into something people love.
