Nice review for the new CD on Amazon. 14 Greatest Hits with some Rare Mixes June 18, 2014 By gassy goon This 5th Dimension Greatest Hits CD sports 14 classic hits, cool vintage photos and excellent liner notes. I like the sequencing of the songs. Kicking the CD off with CALIFORNIA SOUL is perfect , as it truly summarizes what the groups sound was, with those harmonies soaring in and out, and the backing by the best West Coast musicians, punctuated with some funky brass. STONED SOUL PICNIC, SWEET BLINDNESS , UP UP AND AWAY , and other biggies are here. The biggest one was AQUARIUS/LET THE SUNSHINE IN, and its here for the first time with its rare mix that Producer Bones Howe prepared for the 1969 Greatest Hits album. Other rare mixes include the single mixes of NEVER MY LOVE and the social consciousness medley of the 1970 single A CHANGE IS GONNA COME/PEOPLE GOT TO BE FREE, which is a rarity in this form on CD. Almost every big 5th hit is here - ONE LESS BELL TO ANSWER, WEDDING BELL BLUES, [ LAST NIGHT ] I DIDNT GET TO SLEEP AT ALL, and other chart hits. Its not as complete as the single CD The Ultimate 5th Dimension that has 21 songs, but it is a good deal and price. Plus, I like the Sonys Playlist series, especially now that they have liner notes and photos in a jewel case. Sony used to release the earlier Playlist line of CDs in cardboard cases with no notes or photos. And Sonys Playlist CDs contain 14 tracks , which I much prefer to Universal Musics Icon series which gives the buyer only 11 tracks. A nice addition for the music fans collection.
