Nice to meet Doug Owens today in my office. He is the democratic challenger to Mia Love. He was nice enough to stop by. My door is always open to anybody who wants to talk to me. When he began to make a contrast between himself and Mia, I reminded Doug that I wasnt undecided. I fully endorse Mia Love and think she has the right ideas for congress. He respectfully acknowledged that I had already endorsed Mia, and simply wanted to reach out. Nothing wrong with that. I takes guts to run for office, and even more so to talk to those who have endorsed another candidate. One of the reasons I endorsed Mia is due to the fact that Mia Love has had the experience, similar to my current situation, of not having a vote. She served as Mayor of Saratoga Springs, and had to learn how to persuade council members, in order to get things done for her city. As a member of congress, that skill is essential in a body of one vote in 435. Her experience as Mayor will help her win some votes in Washington for Utah. She knows how to gently persuade, and when to put the pressure on. Thats a skill Im still learning, but one that Mia showed real strength for as Mayor in Saratoga Springs. Again, thanks to Doug for reaching out today, and I welcome his friendship in the future.
