“Nichiren Daishonin declared, The varied sufferings that all living beings undergo—all these are Nichiren’s own sufferings (OTT, 138), and left behind a great teaching of peace and happiness. To create an age where the word misery no longer exists in the vocabulary of individuals, countries, or the world—this was the wish of my mentor, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda. The struggle of his final years was to help all Soka Gakkai members fully gain the benefit of their Buddhist practice, and to proudly proclaim to the world the wonderful victories they had achieved. Mr. Toda called out: ‘Let us wage a struggle in faith—one that shines with brilliant actual proof in the form of every member enjoying benefit in faith, without a single exception. “I, too, am praying single-mindedly for the happiness of all of my dear friends and the realisation of world peace. The road may seem long, but let us live our lives together with hope, reaching out in dialogue with open hearts to one friend after another. Building a growing circle of friendship is the direct path to lasting peace.” SGI Newsletter No. 9075, Opening a New Era of Kosen-rufu Together, (30) Fostering Friendships with an Open Heart, from17th Aug., 2014, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translationreleased 29th Aug., 2014
