Nicholas J. Vocca 7 mins Cab driver can take a bullet, and Get over it. Though some City Cab employees and customers contacted us within an hour after the incident took place at 9:18 pm this past Friday, we just moments ago received confirmationm that said incident did occur when listening to a tape by one of those assigned to monitor and record all radio transmissions from this company on the WQEU 318 frequency. A recently hired 2nd shift driver apparently had not heard of the shooting which took place in the Bonniewood Estates housing complex some three-hours earlier which resulted in a man being rushed to ACMC with a bullet wound to his ankle, until a customer informed him of this. When this driver radioed in to the female dispatcher to query if she was aware of this shooting, she responded she did not. When informing her of his concerns about possibly taking a bullet if on a call to that complex, her immediate reply was Oh well, youll get over it. If that response seems callous and cold, perhaps the temperature of this incident may plunge deep into the Arctic Zone when giving considerations to some details about this individual. Though currently employed there as Office Manager, she was filling in as a dispatcher when two other dispatchers called off sick that day. Prior to that, she had been a driver there for three or more years and should appreciate the concerns other drivers have for potentially being robbed, assaulted, and even murdered in the course of performing their duty in transporting the public. Also, she surely is cognizant of the fact that these drivers are both dedicated professionals, and the ones who bring in the money that pays the company expenses, including her wages. Yes, we once again have another example of how most upper management officials within this company belt down on the drivers as one would the Egyptian slaves of early Biblical times, and this despite the fact that the company would almost immediately whither financially should they all unite and refuse to drive one day. That, they would never do because all do care about their customers. But, because everyone has a breaking point, it one day could. Let us hope that never happens, and that these unsung heroes one day get the recognition and praise they truly are entitled to receive.
