Niger Delta Youths to Protest Goodluck Jonathans Negligence.. Niger Deltan youths have promise to protest President Goodluck Jonathans visits to the area following what they former called gross negligence of the area. The protest would hold in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital on Friday, January 30, which coincides with the PDP presidential rally in the state. The youths drawn from over 24 youth groups in the region spoke through the Publicity Secretary, Niger Delta Youths Forum, Mr Eric Kakabel. The youths lamented that despite the fact that the president is from the area, the were yet to enjoy dividend of Democracy. They also decried the poor state of Federal Roads in Region, stressing that this has cut off the Region from the National grid. In a statement made available to news men in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the youths said they out to wake the president from a deep sleep, and save the image of the region by Tackling Insecurity, Corruption, Infrastructural decay, among other national issues squarely. The group further assured the public that modalities were being put in place to ensure a peaceful conduct of the protest, in accordance with the International best practices. They further stated that already the protest is attracting the sympathy of Both Foreign and Local media who are concerned about the poor and underdevelopment of the region despite huge resources. In a response, an youth leader in Rivers state, Hon. Iminabo Anderson said this was long over due, as the president needed to be called to order.
