Niger State Joins Committee of Oil Producing States Soon ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Chief Servant and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has assured that in the next few years, the state would join the committee of oil producing states in the country. Speaking when he received, on a courtesy call, the president of Shengkang Group of China at Government House, Minna, Governor Aliyu said although his administration would not be the one to actualize the dream, he would lay a solid foundation for the oil prospecting to begin. Governor Aliyu disclosed that the Federal Government, through the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) had been cooperating with the state so far stressing that as soon as the final confirmation on the discovery was made by the Chinese company, the nitty gritty of who should do what would be concluded. While pledging to support the company with what it might need to make its job easier, the Governor advised that whatever activities the company intends to execute, it must have at the back of its mind the lean finances of the state. Earlier, the President of Shengkang Group of China, Mr. Quingzeng Liu said the company was partnering the state government in the discovery, prospecting and development of crude oil for the betterment of its people. He disclosed that the company’s involvement had so far confirmed oil in the Bida Basin adding that the recent drilling activity in the area was to determine the quantum of the crude and ascertain other possible areas within the basin with sediments of the mineral.
