Nigeria Gradually Drifting From “Gold Standard” I can authoritatively assert that Nigeria, formerly Africa’s pride on quality, is sysmetically divulging in second class products. Years back, if it was not inscribed “Made in UK/England” it isn’t original or solid to a Nigerian consumption. But today, what’s going on folks? HelloooOOOO!!! Beijing, Taipei, Singapore, all East and West Asia = China. My people have resorted to quantity in place of quality unlike them. Take a look at our current structures being erected (mostly in Asian style), Roads, Dams, Nigerian homes are now decorated in Chinese style et al. Even at the oil industry, Asians have over taken the west in its spheres for obvious reasons. Wait a minute! Before, if I buy a pair of made in uk woolen-socks, I will use and wash it for next use, and I can do that as long as the elastics are tight and colors kept. However, the amount you spent for 2 pairs of UK,s may fetch you double if not triple that of Chinese. But, when I tried that of the China, after the first wash…That’s it! It’s expansion and colors mixed together after the first wash may render it useless. I applied the Use and throw away system without even a first wash because I can afford to buy as many as I could consume in order to avoid the waste of my time washing. I therefore, realized using more of the Chinese than western products. Using more means spending more as well. At my end of year calculations, I lost more funds using Asia products than that of the west. Nigeria, it’s about time we think before the mad rush for cheap articles from Asia. Our main stream economic is now at the mercy of these far easterners, I know we need cheaper labor for our urgent development to meet the millennium deadline. We shouldnt also forget when it’s cheap, there’s why?
