Nigeria U20 team enjoyed a big friendly win as they whipped Lugbe United 12-0 at the Area 3 Stadium on Thursday morning. Alhassan Ibrahim and Taiwo Awoniyi both scored three goals each as the Flying Eagles thumped the Abuja-based side. The Manu Garba wards, who were on a high from the kickoff, were in front in the 13th minute when Ibrahim stabbed home off a corner moments after he was denied by a point-blank range save by the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Ifeanyi Matthew put Awoniyi through to score the team’s second goal and in the 18th minute Awoniyi again bagged his second and third for the team via a Bernard Bulbwas well crafted through ball. The Lugbe side rarely threatened, with Mohammeds blocked shot their best effort. Awoniyi should have made the scoreline 4-0 in the stroke of 25 minutes, before Matthew made it 4-0 from the penalty spot in the 26th minute, after Awoniyi was brought down by a Lugbe United player in the 18-yard area. Coach Manu wanted todays 12-0 win over the Amateurs at Area 3 to be the catalyst for his sides push for success in Morocco. The excellent Matthew set-up Bulbwa to make it 5-0 for the Flying Eagles. He once again put through Ibrahim for goal number six, before he scored his second goal to make it 7-0 going into recess. The U20 started the second half confidently against a clueless side who were lacking the winning formula, with Mustapha Abdullahi making it eight-nil 10 minutes after the interval, before Ibrahim completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute with a simple tap-in from close range. UAE 2013 U17 World Cup revelation, Awoniyi also completed his festival of goals with a powerful shot to make it 10-0 for the rampaging Flying Eagles. Abubakar Lawal and Sulaiman Abdullahi helped to improve the complete massacre with a goal each late in the game. The Flying Eagles are expected to depart Abuja Saturday for Lagos for the early morning flight to Morocco on Sunday. The Nigeria U20 team will play two matches against their Moroccan counterparts on April 9 and 11. In the meantime, former Golden Eaglets skipper Musa Muhammed is expected from Turkish club, Besiktas tonight, while Chidera Eze from Portuguese champions, FC Porto is due to join the team on Saturday. Kenya will host Tanzania in a 2015 African Youth Championship qualifier this weekend in Nairobi with the overall winners facing Nigeria in early May in continuation of the qualifying tournament. Like the Flying Eagles, Morocco have been drawn bye to the second round, where they will slug it out with the winners of the match between Togo and Equatorial Guinea.
