Nigeria Womens Team Of The Week By SL10.NG The past week saw Super Falcons of Nigeria maintain their impressive form with an 8-0 demolition of She-Amavubi of Rwanda in Kaduna. Our players abroad played active roles for their respective clubs but our team of experts had to settle for a strong eleven. Ibubeleye Whyte [Rivers Angels, Nigeria] The former U20 star was superb, though the Rwanda women rarely troubled her. She had a great understanding with her defenders. Esther Udegbe [Bayelsa Queens] The central defender continued to be dominant in the air throughout. A forceful defender, who has a promising future ahead of her. Onome Ebi [Minsk, Belarus] Onome has always been a leader at the back for the Super Falcons. The former Sunnana woman communicated effectively with her teammates, and had a knack for predicting forward runs. It is often said of her that she rarely gets beaten in a one-on-one situation. All these attributes were on display in the home game against Rwanda this weekend, as Nigeria came out 8-0 winners. Helen Ukaonu [Sunnana, Sweden] A powerhouse at the back, Helen caused Bollstanäs much trouble. She gave the visitors a few hiccups herself on several occasions, running forward as she burst into the box and struck with dangerous volleys. She stood true to her attacking instincts from her left back position, combining technique with good tactical awareness and also netted the first goal in the 4-0 massacre. Blessing Edoho [Pelican Stars, Nigeria] The right-back made two decisive tackles and kept her opposite team, both in defense and midfield, under control throughout the match. She netted the opening goal against Rwanda. Gift Otuwe [Minsk, Belarus] Performed at the top of her game. Gift had an overall impressive game. She has been more composed on the ball this season and has an awareness of when to play the right pass as she did on several occasions last weekend. Evelyn Nwabuoku [Rivers Angels, Nigeria] Fans have asked why she wasnt on the score-sheet despite a big win against Rwanda. In her imposing way, she gave the team the needed steel. A true leader. Ogonna Chukwudi [KIF Orebro, Sweden] The Nigeria international showed the right combination of perseverance and technique as her brace helped Orebro gain a 4-0 win at Linkopings. Desire Oparanozie [Atasehir Belediyespor, Turkey] The Bull continually brought her teammates into play against Rwanda. She stood out throughout the game as a player not afraid to receive the ball in tight situations and play in place of her team mates. She grabbed a hat-trick in Kaduna. Ijeoma Obi [FC Bobruichanka, Belarus] Despite lasting just 45 minutes, the goal machine was instrumental in helping FC Bobruichanka wallop Universitet 6-0. Asisat Oshoala [Rivers Angels, Nigeria] A brace and a great performance, what can you ask for? She showed the full range of her game as she provided fine balls to her teammates and beat the Rwanda defenders at will. A plus to women football due to her big frame, age and high work rate.
