Nigerian military free Seven More Girls From Abductors The search efforts of operatives of the Nigerian Military yielded more fruits on Sunday as seven other girls were salvaged from the clutches of the fleeing members of the Boko Haram terrorist group. In his Easter message, the Governor of the state, Kashim Shettima, said that between Saturday night and Sunday evening, seven more girls were freed from captivity, bringing to 52 the number of those that had been reunited with their parents. Seventy-seven students are yet to be found out of the 129 students that were at the hostel in the early hours of April 15, the Easter message released by Governor Shettima’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, said. Governor Shettima called on the parents and guardians to return any student that might have ran home on the day of the attack, to enable authorities take records to ascertain the actual number of missing students. The governor described the last one week as his most troubling moment since he took over the mantle of affairs in May, 2011. Shettima said though he had witnessed very dark days of insurgency inherited by his administration, none of the attacks had been more troubling for him as much as the last one week that young girls from his State were abducted by deadly insurgents and confined to a forest. “I have seen very serious moments since I became the Governor of Borno State in 2011 at a period of insurgent crisis. I have seen many innocent lives lost for no reason and I mourn every life lost with empathy and high sense of responsibility. But the last one week have been my worst days as a Governor and even the worst in my life. I am troubled as a father, as a leader and as a politician,” he said. The governor said: “So much is being done by rescue teams. There is very high commitment on the part of the Federal, State and Chibok local government authorities in working for the freedom of these innocent daughters of ours that are future leaders and mothers of future leaders. He called on all Christian parents, brothers and sisters in the state to use the Easter period to intensify prayers for the freedom of the girls and for the return of peace in Borno State and rest of Nigeria. Governor Shettima also urged the indigenes of the state to sacrifice their time to support grieving parents and relations; stressing the need for them to be their brothers’ keepers in sacrifice and forgiveness which is what the Easter symbolised. He further pledged the resolute commitment of his administration to the search for peace and sustainable progress and requested for the continued support and prayers of all citizens.
