Nigerians in Diaspora to watch 2015 polls live on TV Nigerians across Europe are to watch the 2015 general elections live on television courtesy of partnership between two media organisations. Regional Director (Africa) of UK-based Ben TV, the first ethnic minority satellite channel in Europe, Mr. Lanre Ijaola, disclosed this during a media parley in Lagos yesterday. He said the project, which was in conjunction with Naija Live Media, would give comprehensive coverage of the elections to Nigerians abroad. “Although the Nigeria Diaspora Residents do not at the moment have the right to vote, we strongly believe they are very influential in determining the votes of their family members back home. We pray that in the nearest future, the hope of the Nigerians in the Diaspora to vote will come to pass by legislation in Nigeria. “Nigeria huge Diaspora population can be a potent force for Nigeria Transformation. Our live transmission in Nigeria and worldwide is powered by Naijalive, Naijalive is the Nigeria’s leading independent specialist in providing high Definition Satellite Broadcast facilities and various media technologies, hence the partnership with Ben TV UK,” he declared. Ijaola advised the National Assembly to come up with a legislation that would give Nigerians in the Diaspora the right to vote. In his remarks, Mr. Kayode Falade of Naijalive, said his organization had procured two Outside Broadcast (OB) vans for the coverage of the 2015 polls. The vehicles, he said, were fitted with the state-of-the-art facilities to provide the best of the 2015 polls to Nigerians abroad. 2015 polls: Group to organise debate for presidential, guber candidates A group, Voters Awareness Initiative, yesterday said it has concluded plans to organise a debate for presidential and governorship candidates in the 2015 general elections. President of the group, Mr. Wale Ogunade, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Ogunade said the debate would provide the candidates and their parties with opportunities to highlight their manifestos to the electorate. “By the grace of God, in the next few weeks, we will organise a debate for all political office seekers. “That will be our own contribution towards the general elections because we want the election to be issue based. “We want to start the debate with the presidential candidates and also for gubernatorial candidates in Lagos State. We also hope to extend it to two other geopolitical zones if the funds are there,” Ogunade said. Ogunade said VAL would partner with other groups and the media to ensure that the debate was successful. He said the issue of voter apathy had reduced drastically due to massive sensitisation and mobilisation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other groups. “You saw the interest and the intensity with which people wanted to get their permanent voter cards and to register. It is no more business as usual for our politicians, people want to speak with their votes and make sure that their votes count in the polls,” Ogunade said. Source: Remi Adefulu (Sun News)
