Nigerias sports minister Tammy Danagogo has questioned the decision of the countrys football federation to opt for a foreign coach to replace sacked Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi. The minister wants to know why the NFF hierarchy does not think there is a qualified Nigerian coach capable of leading the struggling African champions. Our programme here is to ensure the growth of our indigenous coaches. Danagogo said on Thursday in Abuja.Does it mean that we do not have good coaches at home that can do the job very well? If they can give good reasons for the decision to go for a foreign coach, well it is their decision to make but I must wait until I see the record of the person they want to bring, he added.Meanwhile the Vanguard newspaper reports that the NFF is already considering Colombian coach Jorge Luis Pinto and Argentine Jose Pekerman for the job. Both South Americans shone at the recent World Cup in Brazil with Costa Rica and Colombia respectively.Pinto led Costa Rica to the quarter-finals where they lost in a penalty shootout to the Netherlands, while Pekermans Colombia also lost in the quarter-finals to Brazil. While Pintos contract expired after the global showpiece, Pekerman has signed a new contract to lead Colombia until 2018. The NFF officials are said to be interested in Pinto because of his love for young talents, while Pekerman is admired for his firm belief in free-flowing, entertaining football based on intricate passing. Both men are expected to cost plenty, but the NFF is not bothered by the likely expense. The Super Eagles are currently managed by stand-in coach Shuaibu Amodu who is only expected to oversee next months Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo-Brazzaville and South Africa before making way for the new foreign coach.
