Night chill continues, above normal temp during day in Kashmir SRINAGAR : Night chill continued because of open sky while day recorded above normal temperature in the Kashmir valley, where summer capital, Srinagar was more colder than ski resort of Gulmarg. There was also no respite from the cold in Leh where the minimum temperature remained minus 10 degree Celsius while it was minus 5.4 degree at Kargil. A Met department spokesmanperson said weather will remain mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There would be no large change during subsequent two days, he said. He said night chill will continue while the maximum will also remain above normal in the Kashmir valley. After one degree below normal minimum temperature, sun again appeared in the summer capital, Srinagar, though icy cold winds continued. The Met spokespersons said the minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 1.8 degree, a notch below normal. He said due to clear sky yesterday, the maximum temperature was 16.4 degree, four notches above normal. The minimum temperature will remain below normal tomorrow, he said adding the day temperature will be above normal. However, Srinagar was colder than world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the minimum temperature was minus 0.8 degree, more than three notches below normal. Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, recorded minus 3.6 degree minimum temperature, coldest in the valley followed by Qazigund minus 2.4 degree and Kupwara minus 2.3 degree. Leh in Ladakh region recorded minus 10 degree while at Kargil, a border town, it was minus 5.4 degree minimum temperature. (PTI)
