Nighttime update on Justin 9/23: Well, God is still working :). Today, we got to hear Justin talk for the first time in over 2 weeks! They were able to put a valve on his trachea, that he can wear while he is off the ventilator (which he told us he absolutely hates today :) ) to help him talk. His parents and I were able to sit and talk with him today! My favorite day so far!!! He was able to get up to the chair again with no problems ( with physical therapy assistance) ! He sat up most of the day, with oxygen only, and his mom said that he wanted to try sleeping with it, and not the ventilator, so I hope it goes well! I am home again with Kenzie tonight. Since Justin is up and awake these days, he is reading all of these posts, so feel free to leave him a comment here or message him :). He is doing GREAT and I think that he is going to make great progress, more than likely faster than they expect, in the next few days, because he is so determined! He got to FaceTime and talk with Kenzie today :) That was fun! The other new information we got today is that they believe that by the end of this week, he will be ready to transfer to a Long Term Acute Care rehab facility in Pineville. They will focus on physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Its like a therapy bootcamp :). He can go there with his remaining chest tubes, on the ventilator as needed, and whatever else he needs. They are equipped for patient like him there, with their own critical care certified doctors there, etc. It will be great for his recovery! He will go straight from ICU to there, and will be there until they feel he is strong enough to stay off the vent, and get his trachea out, etc. We are just waiting pretty much on insurance ( which I thank God for ;) ) at this point. Tomorrow he is also going to have a swallow evaluation to see about getting his feeding tube out, and start EATING!!!! Pray that he passes with flying colors :) I know he is going to do great! So, please continue for healing, strength, and determination. Justin is very thankful for all of your prayers, as are we :). He has been overwhelmed by all of the people we have told him about that are praying for him! We thank God for all of you! God Bless!
