Nikita Khrushchev (former Soviet leader) once said in 1961, "We do not have to destroy America with missiles; America will destroy itself from within." This used to be laughable (especially in 1989 when the USSR fell without a shot), but as I look at the way we disagree about issues these days I am now concerned. I think the two political parties in this country have both taken hard turns and have created a divide and conquer/for us or against us atmosphere. Being a moderate is now considered a bad thing ("flip-flopper" or "soft on the issues"), and one is expected to choose a definitive side on every issue that aligns to one of the two viewpoints. The Republicans or Democrats (Liberals or Conservatives) are neither always right nor always wrong on every issue, and both have their hypocritical moments. Being a Democrat does not make you "more enlightened", and being a Republican does not make you "more Godly." Why them them divide us and force us to choose a certain viewpoint?
