Nikola Tesla! Born in 1856, Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor and engineer who is best known for his work on the alternating current (AC) electricity system. To say the least, Tesla was an interesting character. He experimented with an incredibly large number of scientific fields, many of which had seen very few prior developments. In particular, he made significant contributions to our knowledge of electromagnetic radiation, especially x- rays and radio transmission. With the funding of George Westinghouse, Tesla also created one of the first hydroelectric power plants, located at Niagra Falls, New York. Later on in his life, Tesla began isolating himself more and more, spending his time feeding pigeons in New York City until his death in January 1943. Note: Located in Shoreham, New York is Tesla’s former laboratory, the Wardenclyffe Tower facility. The site was recently purchased by a non-profit and will eventually become the site of the Tesla Science Center, a museum dedicated to Nikola Tesla $
