Nikon Ambassador Chris McLennan managed to swing a day to travel to The Great Wall of China between a busy schedule of commercial shoots in Beijing, Rather than visit the normal tourist spots which are very crowded at this time of year we chose to drive then hike with a guide from a remote local village to a spectacular section called Wang Jing Lou. It was a grueling steep hike in blistering heat for the first hour followed by a hands and feet - and sometimes knees climb up the mountainside for another hour to reach this spectacular location. The views were spectacular and we had it completely to ourselves. It is a very rugged area and the wall is unrestored so had an incredible amount of character and mystique to it. I found myself in awe just wondering the sights that this wall had witnessed... The light was fantastic and we stayed late to watch the sunset and the full moon rise before the long journey back down the mountain around 11pm.
