Nilgiri Library to digitise books Well preserved for over the last one-and-a-half century through sheer personal care and diligence, the prized possessions of the Nilgiri Library here are now in the process of being protected for posterity with the help of modern technology. A three member team of Robust Technology from Coimbatore has been entrusted with the task of digitising the books. Long considered a jewel among the legacies of the Raj, which this hill station still continues to flaunt with pride, the 154-year-old Nilgiri Library houses an invaluable collection of books, rare as well as old. With the oldest book dating back to 1585, the large collection is displayed on well placed teak wood shelves. Various factors including climate have greatly helped in preventing the books from becoming brittle and ultimately disintegrating. With even the weather undergoing marked changes of late, it has become necessary to resort to technology to preserve the books. thehindu/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/nilgiri-library-to-digitise-books/article4805995.ece
