Nina Darnton is out with her second novel, The Perfect Mother. The book has attracted rave reviews, as did her earlier thriller, An African Affair. Nina and her husband John Darnton are longtime friends of mine. In fact, I served as Africa Correspondent for The New York Times some years after John did. (His next assignment was Poland, and he won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for his courageous reporting during the Communist regimes harsh rule. John went on to write successful novels, and is now Curator of the George Polk Awards.) Nina and John have two daughters, Kyra and Liza, both literary figures, and a son, Jaime. A lovely family.
