Nine Worlds of Existence Asgard: Realm of Aesir, of the conscious, abode of the fetch and the house of the spirit (ond). This is the realm where many of the gods make their home. For calling upon the proper god in galdr usage; the names of the deities, the land in which their hall is located and the name of the hall will be posted later. Jotunheim: Realm of etins/ giants, resistance and illusions. The realms’ energy that opposes and offers the resistance is much like that found in nauthiz (for a simplistic definition). Illusionary energies originate in Jotunheim. These are not illusions such as a modern-day magician, but forces that exist in Midgard that deceive/ manipulate the senses that appear to be something else. Ljossalfheim: Realm of bright-elves, thought and memory. The power or energy of higher mental ability (thought and memory) is the hugr; mind, intellect, will, faculty of cognition. The gift of the hugr or odhr was given to humankind by the holy trinity (Villi); in Ljossalfheim, its essence is in its purest form. Midgard: Realm of material manifestation and what humans would call the cosmos/ universe. All eight other realms intersect, meet and touch Midgard. Therefore, aspects of each realm can occur, be felt or affect the realm of Midgard. Muspellsheim: Realm of fire and continuous expansion; a cosmic principle. This is one of the two forces that created existence. When a fiery spark met icy material; the yeasty material of creation was formed. Scientifically, this is the spark that created the “Big Bang.” Nidavellir: Realm of the dwarves and shapes: hamr (la, laeti, litr or form). Hamr is the physical forming substance that we may know as the elements. Gifted to humanity by Ve, It gives us form, shape and physicality. It may be possible; utilizing the seidr and hamingja, that the hamr could be reformed with the hugr. Niflheim: Realm of ice and constant contraction; a cosmic principle. This is the second force that created existence. Flowers (Edred Thorrson) has given an excellent example of it being like a “black hole,” constantly pulling in on itself. In the realm and energy of Niflheim lies the secrets of “dark matter,” scientifically. Helheim, abode of the dead, lies within the realm of Niflheim, gifted to Hel by Odin. Svartalfheim: Realm of the dark-elves and raw emotions. Energy or substance derived from here could be considered as the base or root of feelings (human emotion). Without the balance of Ljossalfheim, many of us have experienced the ills and woes that acting (or re-acting) from raw emotions could bring upon us. Vanaheim: Realm of the Vanir/ Wanes, organic patterns (nature), water and balance. This is another abode of deities, as well as where, what we call nature, gets its direction or order from. Water (life giving in all aspects) is originated from Vanaheim. Energies of growth and balance are also initiated from this realm; utilized properly, ultimate peace, harmony and life can be achieved.
