Nine is Mine is a unique campaign of, for and by children. Today, the children from Nine Is Mine met Mrs. Ban Soon-taek, who is on a 4-day visit to India with her husband, United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and spoke to her about Make Real My Rights and made recommendations for inclusion of their rights in the post-2015 sustainable development goals. They also thanked the UN for their support, and requested all UN leaders, particularly Mrs. Ban to continue to take their voice to all the deliberations of the UN and the world community as they finally set in stone their new goals. 3 children shared their stories of defying child marriage at age 11, of overcoming disabilities and of climbing Mount Everest at age 13 with Mrs. Ban and urged her and world leaders to consider the difficulties they faced in overcoming these challenges. They also asked world leaders to help all children by making poverty history, providing better health services for mothers and children, having schools with better facilities for children with special needs and creating a world free of caste-based inequities. Malala Yousafzai said that 2015 is a significant year to make history. In accordance with that belief, working on the agenda of Making Poverty History, 15 activists of 15 years of age will meet our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on the 15th of January this year to ask for his support and aid in ensuring that India meets her commitment towards making poverty history, while also concentrating on the 8 MDGs that were to be achieved by 2015 the children informed Mrs. Ban. The event ended with a unique rendition of our national anthem. The anthem was initially written in Sanskrit, a language not all of us understand. NineIsMiners rendered it in sign language, the language of children and people with hearing and speech disabilities. They did this symbolically, to amplify the voice of every member of our earth community that goes unheard.
