Nine years ago we awoke and thought we had really dodged a bullet. Yes we had major wind damage but we thought the worst was over. We were fully prepared with our generator, food, water, booze and cigarettes. We were able to watch TV and what we started seeing was horrific. Then the water started rising and we were scared. We were the lucky ones. Some people lost everything including loved ones. We stayed 4 more days. When we drove out of the city, it was a scene straight out of The Walking Dead. We made our way to West Monroe to drop off a friend who had stayed with us during the storm. Then we made our way to my cousins home in Arkansas where we would spend the next 50 days. When I finally came home, I drove through my beloved New Orleans and could only hang my head and cry. It was devastating.
