Ninety-five years ago... a war encompassing the entire world ended. The First World War followed a nationalistic plague. Germany is united and forges an empire, the Royal Navy must be larger than the second largest and third largest navies combined, the Slavs hold no real say in our kingdom. Alsace-Lorraine should never have left our proud nation. It was a matter of turmoil... upon turmoil. A matter of rivalries, new and old. A cold war which, unfortunately, became hot. And before the war? There was an anarchist group... similar to Anonymous. The difference between then and now is how we fight. Today, we attack with mass protests, hack sites, tear at the foundation. Back then? They started at the top. They claimed the lives of kings, emperors, tsars, and even a US president... for a cause they thought just. And the anarchy they fought for? Well... it helped make a cold war... into something more. The Slavic based Black Hand shot and killed Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife (ironically, Franz supported granting more rights to Slavic people within the Austrian-Hungarian nation). He died... and Austria used the background of only one individual to invade a small nation. The country if Serbia. This... single act started a war that claimed many lives. Lives of soldiers... and civilians. Four years of fruitless fighting has lead to the suffering of many... yet, it ended not with sympathy for they who have lost so much but the desire of keeping potential rivals from achieving the means time wage another war. Intending to cripple Germany... their military was vastly limited and the entire war debt was placed upon them. The Treaty of Versailles was meant to prevent further wars... yet, its unmitigated biased lead to the building blocks of the Second World War. I look at WWI, not as a triumph... but as a lesson in human behavior. Oppression and any selfish actions will have consequences. Simply because you think you are right doesnt mean you are. An unforgiving mind leads to an unforgiving enemy. Youre only as bad as the monsters you make... or the monsters who make you. -Ozan
