Oasis Youth Programs Leader Description: - Provide after school/year round nutrition, cultural, literacy and community inclusion programming for youth (as funding permits) - Teach children to prepare healthy balanced meals and snacks on a limited budget using the Canada’s Food Guide, including literacy, budgeting, shopping, and reading labels - Follow Oasis Facilitator and Program Manuals - Work closely with Youth Program Support Workers and Cultural Advisors - Include Cree language and Culture in youth programming - Keep up-to-date monthly and cumulative statistical data and reporting requirements - Provide programming in a caring, safe and respectful environment - Follow the Oasis programming guidelines of CRAFTS – Caring and Culture, Relationships, Action, Food and Fun, Teamwork and Time, Safety and Security Schedule: Afterschool, some evenings and some weekend programming. Hours are dependent on available funding. Starting wage is $15/hr ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Participate and develop a variety of enriching and engaging activities with school-aged children - Follow program schedule including, program prep, cleanup, and other times set for activities; - Assist in maintaining high standard of health and safety keeping the health and welfare of all children in mind at all times - Participate in regularly scheduled staff meeting as well as other staff meetings as needed. - Follow policies and procedures to ensure health and safety requirements are met Skills and Abilities: Experience working with children and youth is an asset; however, training will be provided Good computer and literacy skills Ability to supervise 10 – 15 children/youth with support staff Provide supervision and guidance of activities, field trips and special activities Ability to plan and organize program activities and events Ability to speak Cree is an asset Knowledge of Aboriginal history and culturally sensitive is an asset Works well with others and as a team Reliable, trustworthy and a positive role model Other Requirements: Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check including Child Abuse Registry Check. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of transporting clients and meet the proper provincial license requirements.
