No Boko Haram emir in Gwoza, Damboa —Locals •Say over 400 insurgents killed in separate attacks in Konduga, Ngamdu CONTRARY to reports that the Boko Haram militants have installed emirs in Gwoza and Damboa local government areas of Borno State, residents of the area told the Nigerian Tribune in Maiduguri, the state capital, that the story was not true. The locals said there was heavy presence of soldiers in Damboa, a development that made it impossible for the insurgents to take over the town or install any emir there. “Senator Ali Ndume is a federal legislator and by his position, he may have certain knowledge of happening in Gwoza which we may not have, but I do not think there was any report that the Boko Haram has installed emir in that area,” Malam Audu Glavda told the Nigerian Tribune. Meanwhile, not less that 400 members of the dreaded Islamic sect were reportedly killed in a shoot-out with soldiers of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, when the sect members came to attack Konduga Local Government Area in the Borno Central senatorial district. Locals also said the insurgents attempted to attack Konduga from two directions with over 500 fighters, but the military fought and defended the local government, killing over 200 before the insurgents retreated. Nigerian Tribune also gathered that after the insurgents were sent away from Konduga, some of them went through the forest and were heading towards Mafa Local Government Area when soldiers laid ambush for them, killing over 100 while others escaped with bullet wounds. In another development, over 100 sect members who came to attack travellers on Maiduguri-Potiskum Road were killed when a detachment of the military on that route engaged them, killing all of them, with their bodies littering the road
