No, asking men not to harass us on the street does *not* mean never ever acknowledge a female person ever. And most women can tell the difference between a leer and a greeting. *However,* once you start demanding a response, even a smile or a nod (men have no idea how many hundreds of times Ive had strangers order me to smile) you start putting your wants ahead of hers. You wanting a response becomes more important than her wanting to be left alone. And thats a point a lot of the nice guys miss. They complain about how women are doing them wrong by not responding. As if we have some obligation to respond, as if their need for validation trumps absolutely anything a woman could possibly be doing. It doesnt.
