No better thing to see as a coach/athlete then improvement. If you are improving, then you are moving in a great/positive direction. Its you against you, and thats one of the most important aspects of reaching your goals and aspirations. Mountain biking can be tough to gauge improvements as theres always more to it then just pure fitness. Speed on the trails depends on both fitness/power to the pedals, technical/riding skills, and good equipment choice. Luckily Strava has a great tool to look over TT sections and manage time splits on certain trail sections. That way you know when you are truly faster on the trails....... Heres a shot of a local short high end section / steep single-track climb I use to evaluate how I have been coming around.
