No breweries open in Dunedin this morning so we headed towards Christchurch. Stopped at Oamaru to visit the Steam Punk museum and literally stumbled across Scotts Brewery. No photos as no device handy when I leapt out of the moving car whilst the rest of the family searched for Penguins. Tried their Golden ale (which wed call Kolsch), their Pale (which Id call a Golden) and their Vienna (which had not a hint of red so Im calling it a lager) then finally a taste of their Imperial Stout which was superbly balanced for all its strength. Well worth a visit. Heres an Emersons Hoppy Pale I picked up on arrival at Christchurch. Theyve just been bought by Lion but it hasnt impacted ingredients at this stage. Nice, easy to drink with aromatic rather than super bitter hop kick.
