No child illiteracy by 2025, Nick Clegg pledges The Liberal Democrats are pledging to eliminate child illiteracy in England by 2025 if they remain in power after Mays general election. Leader Nick Clegg will unveil a manifesto commitment, with extra money for poorer pre-school children. This would more than triple the funding given for each underprivileged child to £1,000. I would like a national numeracy and abolish collective amnesia pledge so that all politicians can add up, and not forget what they have previously done. Tell me Nick, are you part of a Coalition Government that has since May 2010 cut Early Years Funding, which includes the Early Intervention Grant by nearly £1.6 Billion? You know that thing that funded SureStart Children’s Centres? £1.6 billion less £116 million is £1.484 billion that has gone where?
