No clandestine support to BJP:AIMIM The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has rubbished NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s claim that the party is getting support from the BJP which wants to divide secular votes. AIMIM’s Mumbai legislator Waris Pathan said that both the NCP and Congress were worried as his party was going to contest all seats in the forthcoming civic elections in Aurangabad. Mr Pathan said that the AIMIM had started preliminary preparations to contest maximum number of seats in the Mumbai municipal corporation elections in 2016. Mr Pathan also alleged that it was the NCP who helped the BJP by snapping ties with Congress. Mr Pawar, while addressing a NCP meeting at Alibaug on Tuesday, had claimed that some elements in the BJP were behind the rise of the Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) party, which won two seats in the recent state assembly polls. “My view is that very important elements in the BJP are giving a boost to MIM,” Mr Pawar had said. Mr Pathan said that the NCP and Congress were feeling insecure due to the emergence of his party which is why Mr Pawar and other leaders were making “baseless” allegations about AIMIM getting BJP support. “The NCP was trying to help the BJP by dividing secular votes. Which is why Mr Pawar decided to break his party’s alliance with the Congress before the assembly elections. The BJP has managed to form the government despite being in minority because of NCP’s support. We are sitting in the opposition and we will remain in the opposition,” Mr Pathan said. He pointed out that though the AIMIM had not fielded candidates against Congress’s Baba Siddiqui and NCP’s Nawab Malik in Mumbai, they both lost the election. “This shows that the minorities are not voting for Congress and NCP. These parties have not done anything to protect minorities. AIMIM is truly secular. We will work for all including Muslims, Christians and dalits,” said Mr Pathan. Elaborating on his party’s future plans, Mr Pathan said that the AIMIM would contest all seats in the Aurangabad municipal corporation election, which would be held after six months. “Though the BMC elections are two and a half years away, we have started deliberations on it. We will contest maximum possible seats in the BMC. The Congress and NCP are now worried about the municipal elections,” he said
