No compromise By Greg Ebie I was the great pretender, trying to live for God and the pleasure of sin. I lived behind masks in order to conceal the conflict inside my heart; my life was being pulled apart. I would give in to sin only to feel guilty because I knew better. Yet I wasn’t ready to give up my sinful behavior either, so I struggled inwardly with who I was really going to be. I finally decided to make a break from sin. I made a renewed commitment to serve God and live in obedience to His Word. That decision impacted my relationships with others. I made it known I was going to pursue God and things had to change. I’ve never looked back. God has continually helped me to be the man He wanted me to be all along. “I have decided to make a covenant with the God of Israel and turn history around so that God will no longer be angry with us. Children, don’t drag your feet in this! God has chosen you to take your place before him to serve in conducting and leading worship — this is your life work; make sure you do it and do it well” (2 Chronicles 29:10,11, The Message). King Hezekiah decided to turn Judah back to God and forsake the pagan worship that had led the nation astray. (Who says you can’t legislate morality?) His father, King Ahaz, had closed the temple and set up shrines to false gods throughout Judah. The Levites were unemployed, unless they participated in the pagan worship. Hezekiah reminded the Levites they had been chosen to lead the people in worship of the living God; this was their God-given purpose in life. We may not have a wicked king put a stop to all worship of God; nevertheless we face a variety of pressures to conform to the habits of our world. A little compromise here and there, and before long we are living a double life or have forsaken our faith in God altogether. It can be easy to get caught up by the attraction of sin in the world. You may not be a full-time minister, but you are a “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). You have been chosen by God, adopted as His child. You are bought with the blood of Jesus, you are not your own. God wants to remind you that you have been called to fulfill His purpose. Don’t give into compromise; don’t settle for second best. Renew your commitment to Christ; serve the Lord with all your heart! You won’t be sorry!
