No doubt, Sergey Lavrov understood from the very first encounter with Kerry that he is a windbag and a timewaster, but diplomacy requires that he should stay in contact and keep up appearances. Lavrovs real pre-occupation is to dissolve little by little the pseudo-alliance of the US and EU which is exploiting the internal crisis in Ukraine, the parametres of which - thanks to Lavrovs vigilance and interminable patience - Russia has fully under control. The NATO proposal to instantly sign up Ukraine is a totally brainless non-starter, as is the empty plan of Brussels for some special relationship of Ukraine to EU. If Russias logical proposals to the interim administration of Ukraine, acceptance of which is the the necessary presupposition to some sort of official recognition - a posteriori NOT a priori - by Moscow, are rejected, nothing can prevent Ukraine from splitting up along the pre-existing faultlines, into a Russian sector, a Polish sector and a Hungarian-Ruthenian sector, with further prolonged strife and more pointless Maidan riots and bloodshed in Kiev. The possibility of a return of Yanukovych as the legitimate President of the Republic cannot be ruled out, although this is unlikely in the immediate short term. One thing is absolutely clear. The Western interventionists were never in the least interested in Ukraine or the Ukrainian people per se, but still have as their as ultimate goal the extermination of Vladimir Putin - and by implication, Sergey Lavrov. Well, theres no likelihood of that ...!
