No evolution here...I was taught as a kid that when food on bushes and trees ran out at regular neck height, short necked animals evolved into giraffes with loooong necks to reach the tops of trees where there was ample food in order to solve the problem and also to explain why giraffes exist. Well I guess they never thought that they did not need long necks after all..grass eaters just climbed up...and giraffes, well they are just giraffes. And you know one other mazing fact about giraffes. In the fossil record ALL giraffes have loooong necks...necks as along as 8...just the neck. This would be the perfect place to find successive layers of dirt covering millions of years with giraffes with short necks, then gradually getting longer necks over time. Any sign of them? No such luck... And one more thing, why did the giraffes stop at just 8 feet of neck?...why do we not find giraffes with 20 necks since there are plenty of 20 trees and taller? And I am sure that over millions and millions of years they could have easily stretched even taller? I guess the simple answer is that Giraffes are Giraffes and they are just made that way...with 8 foot necks that is... And one more thing, if it were the case that over population and a shortage of food produced loooong necks, then by default all short necked versions would have died out? Tree climbing goats..amazing design! Giraffes, with long necks amazing engineering
