No fracking? No problem. ~ Weak economic growth and out-migration of youth and no population increase. No problem. Aging population and rapidly rising housing, heat and heath-care costs? No problem. NWT can and has always depend on the generosity of other Canadians to keep us in the lifestyle to which we have become accustomed through transfer payments from the Govt. of Canada. The irony is that those transfer payments are largely derived from the extraction of natural resources from the so-called have provinces, like Alberta and Sask., this includes the use of hydro-fracking technology to extract shale gas. No problem. Yes, thats where the money comes from. Not from puffy clouds, ground up hormone free shit, organically ground unicorns or shiny green elves. This hypocrisy seems to be lost on the NWT. There are court cases, chiefs and every environmental group in the land trying to prevent resource development but no one trying to ween us off the federal welfare. We even elect officials who oppose development and want to increase of line of credit. No fracking here, but the NWT is completely willing to live off the proceeds of fracking and resource development elsewhere. Hypocrisy at its best. No problem.
